In the past, swimwear men wear received far less attention than that for women. Through the years, however, fashion has evolved in many ways and overtime, designers created a wider array of choices for men’s wear, including suits they can wear on day at the beach. But unknown to many, men’s swimsuits boast of a rather interesting history. There had been a larger variation in swimwear men use styles than people first believed.

In the 1800s, swimming and bathing in public enjoyed warm welcome from the people. Women in those days had to put on several layers of clothing in order to be considered appropriate; otherwise, their prospects of marriage (for single ladies) would suffer a significant decline and their families would be put to shame (for matrons). Men, if you can believe it, actually had to go through the same rigid discipline. They were required to wear swimming suits that appeared somewhat similarly to what the women wore. Women back then put on swimming dresses that fell modestly to their knees and gave their arms full coverage.

This means that swimwear for men composed of swimming suits consisting of shirts and shorts that also fell to their knees and provided full coverage to their arms. The exposure of a man’s chest was unthinkable in those highly conservative times, and it would take several more years – decades, in fact – before this will be allowed.
